“Always remember, you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think and more loved than you know” ~Winnie The Pooh

Though this quote appears in a beloved children’s book, I find it inspiring for both young and old. We all need to know that we have, within us, so much untapped strength and resilience. Life can often be hard and, when it throws us a curveball, it helps to have someone in our corner who can support us in tapping into those unique qualities that enable us to deal with life and emerge even stronger than we ever thought possible.

I was always the one that friends would talk to about their problems. I first remember being fascinated in my first undergraduate psychology course and I couldn’t get enough. My own life journey has reflected these transitions as I first graduated with a Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Psychology decades ago and worked in a local mental health center. I then decided to explore more corporate settings but my passion has always been counseling. I was drawn back to it years later after having children, so I then pursued my Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Monmouth University in New Jersey and relocated to Texas to be closer to family and to complete my clinical hours.

What are three words that clients use to describe you?

 Caring, Sensitive, Accepting

Everyone comes to therapy with their unique experiences, emotions, capacity for change, strengths and weaknesses. We look at this and I help clients to find their own truth. I love to utilize a mindfulness based approach and strongly believe in the mind-body connection

I use EMDR and often see things through the lens of trauma. What we commonly think of as “trauma” doesn’t always match our experiences and we may downplay it. If it is holding you back, triggering you, or keeping you stuck in the same patterns, that could be trauma. I use elements of CBT and mindfulness, but take a humanistic and holistic approach because we all are so different.

I help my clients achieve their own personal best. I believe they know what works for them and I encourage them to get comfortable stepping outside of their comfort zone. One of my passions is working with clients who have experienced the roller coaster of emotions that accompany infertility, pregnancy loss and new parenthood. I have traveled that challenging road myself and discovered how healing on the inside helped to get me closer to my goal of a family. I have been trained through Postpartum Support International for the unique issues related to perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

I also had the professional experience of providing pre-and post-placement counseling for adoptive and birth parents at a non-profit adoption agency through my graduate program. This provided an intimate perspective into the adoption process and gave me insight into the special joys and struggles of building a family in this way.

On a personal note, I am a weather geek and insist on watching the full weather forecast – Texas gives me a lot to watch! My college years were in the 80s so I grew up with “hair bands” and know almost every AC/DC song. My musical taste has refined though and I absolutely love acoustic guitar, jazz and classical music…and whatever music my teens listen to. When I’m not working or hanging with the family, you’ll find me spending a lot of time walking our two rescue dogs, Oliver and Lucy. I love everything related to animals and my “safe place” usually consists of playing with puppies!

I’m excited to join Mindful Path as an LPC Intern because their guiding principles of holistic healing align with my beliefs and how I’ve grown as a person and as a therapist. I am committed to walking along beside you and encouraging you to tap into your inner power. I believe you already have everything inside you to heal and I will do everything in my power to help you get there.
